7 Types of Logic Gates with their circuit diagrams

Basic Logic Gates

There are three basic logic gates -

1. OR Logic Gate 2. AND Logic Gate 3. NOT Logic Gate

Universal Logic Gates

There are two universal logic gates -

1. NOR Logic Gate 2. NAND Logic Gate

All logic gates can be designed using these gates.

Special Logic Gates

There are two special logic gates -

1. Exclusive OR Logic Gate or XOR gate. 2. Exclusive NOR Logic Gate or XNOR gate.

1. Circuit symbol of OR gate

This is the circuit symbol or diagram of OR logic gate.  A and B are two Inputs and the output is Y.

2. Circuit symbol of AND gate

This is the circuit symbol or diagram of AND logic gate.  A and B are two Inputs and Y is the output

3. Circuit symbol of NOT gate

The circuit symbol or the diagram of NOT logic gate or the Inverter is shown above. It can have only one input which is taken as A and the output is Y.

4. Circuit symbol of NOR gate

The circuit symbol of two-input NOR gate is shown above. A and B are two inputs and the output is taken at Y.

NOR = OR + NOT

5. Circuit symbol of NAND gate

The circuit symbol of NAND logic is shown above. A and B are two inputs and the output is Y.

NAND = AND + NOT

6. Circuit symbol of XOR gate

The circuit symbol of XOR logic is shown above. A and B are two inputs and the output is Y. It is used as Inequality checker.

7. Circuit symbol of XNOR gate

The circuit symbol of XNOR logic is shown above. A and B are two inputs and the output is Y. It is used as an Equality checker.
