# How to calculate Power factor in electrical AC circuit?

In another article, we have discussed the power factor, its definition, its formula and other related facts on power factor. Now, we need to find the power factor in a circuit to know how much power is delivering to its output and how much power is losing in circuit components. In this article, we are going to discuss the way to calculate the power factor in electrical circuits.

## How to calculate Power factor in electrical circuit?

There are several ways to find Power factor of a circuit. But I suggest you to calculate the power factor by using any of the two ways at below –

## How to find power factor using power factor formula?

If you collect the data from the circuit, then you can calculate the power factor of the circuit manually. You just need to put the data in appropriate formula or equation of electrical power factor to calculate it. The most common formula of power factor is,

${\color{Blue} f=cos\theta}$……(1)

Where, $\theta$ is the phase difference between the alternating current and voltage in the circuit. If you know the phase difference then you can use this formula. Otherwise, you can find the power factor by calculating the ratio of working power to the apparent power.

## Calculating power factor using power factor calculator

The most easy way to calculate power factor of a circuit is by using a calculator. There are many power factor calculators available in the market (online and offline). You just need to put the required data on the calculator and that’s it. The calculator will show the value of the power factor of the circuit after evaluating those data.

This all from this article on the calculation of power factor in electrical circuits. Hope you understand it. If you have any doubt on this topic you can ask me in the comment section.

Thank you!
